Undergraduate Program

The department offers two anatomy courses for undergraduate students at the University of Missouri. Human Anatomy (PthAS 2201) is a 3-credit lecture course, with limited enrollment. Human Anatomy Laboratory course (PthAS 2203) is a 2-credit laboratory course concerning normal human anatomy. There are 3 separate sections of this course offered at different times, but enrolllment is limited.  Both courses are offered in the Fall and Winter semesters for undergraduates in a number of health profession programs, including nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, physical therapy, along with many others.

Research and Instructional Techniques (PthAS 3460), a 3-credit course, involves library and laboratory research and includes development of oral and written communications skills.

Special Problems in Cytopathology (PthAS 2685) is a 2-credit lecture course that relates hematologic morphologic findings in conventional body fluid cytology; it also reviews techniques used in chromosome cultures and karyotyping, with emphasis on sex-related abnormalities.

Human Anatomy (PthAS 4222) is a 7-credit hour course offered during summer session and has limited enrollment. This course is reserved for students enrolled in the School of Health Professions, but additional enrollment may be available by instructor consent.

Essentials of Pathology (HthRP3200) is a 3-credit course providing a basic foundation for understanding etiology of disease with emphasis on systemic pathology for non-medical students. Prerequisites: general biology and one course in either physiology or anatomy. This course is cross-listed with the Health Professions Department.

Clinical Laboratory Sciences is a program of study leading to certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist). The program is offered hrough the School of Health Professions, with clinical rotations at University Hospital and Clinics, and at Boyce and Bynum Laboratories.

Forensic Pathology/Death Investigation (PthAS4220) is a 2-credit course summarizing Forensic Death Investigation from beginning to end.  This course will include some of the current laboratory techniques seen on “CSI”.  Team taught by experts in the fields including medical examiners, death investigators, forensic anthropologists, police CSI team, lawyers, and others.  Please contact Dr. Chris Stacy two weeks prior to the start of the block by email, stacyc@missouri.edu, to receive instructions. Prerequisite: Instructor’s consent.

A program in clinical laboratory sciences (medical technology) is available jointly through the School of Health Professions.
